Re: Currently Reading
It’s a good ole romp. There are some prerequisites before you start though. Minimum you should probably have read The Stand and Salems Lot before hand. There’s references all over the place but I think those are the major minimums. I mean you don’t have to, you’ll grasp what’s happening but as it pulls in major elements of those books it helps with the enjoyment.
I hear Insomnia too but I’ve not read that so dunno. I started it and it put me to sleep -_-

Re: Currently Reading
Batter in then First book is real short to get a taste for it and the 4th (Wizard and Glass) is probably my fav of all his books.
Couple of weeks ago I was in my local charity bookshop as someone brought in a bag full of King. Since the place was just shutting I bought all 25 rather than raking through for the ones I hadn't read and ended up with well over half I hadn't so not bad for a tenner. All of them the hardback Hodder releases. Working through them slowly, reading Duma Key right now and its pretty good so far.

That's good advice, and Alan having read a good chunk of his other work as you have will hugely increase your enjoyment of the series.Alan wrote: ↑Fri Oct 04, 2024 10:53 amIt’s a good ole romp. The Time Travellers Wife
I'm stubborn so its rare I actually stop even if I dont like something. I stopped this. How is this baws so popular? Its a romantic tale of a chap who travels through time grooming a child to later be his wife. Its romantic! He also spends some time wanking his younger self off. If that doesn't turn you off its also poorly written and has no respect for its own rules or causality. The time traveler can not change anything in the past, he tries to save a girl from being killed by a stray hockey puck but he goes mute or some drivel. Anyway those rules dont apply to grooming a child or wanking your younger self off though because father times a fucking romantic. The girl at 11 basically says "if you cant change time how come you can groom me" and he says something along the lines of "well if it leads to something thats happened its ok" - how the fuck does that work? She would never have shacked up with you if you didnt groom her and your younger self would never have been wanked off by his time traveling self if there was no time traveling self.
What the actual fuck? I know I seem fixed on him wanking off his younger self but come on!!
From my king haul Ive worked through:
Duma Key - very good!
Needful Things - very good!
Bag Of Bones - kinda crappy (that super hot 20 year old with a taste for middle aged writers. Curious what Tabitha thinks of this ¬_¬)
From A Buick 8 - it was fine (a dark tower adjacent)
Tommyknockers - very mostly good!

Re: Currently Reading
I finished Mr Mercedes and have started on the next one (forget the name right now).
But anyway, browsing Prime this evening I learned there's actually a Mr Mercedes show! Starring Brendan Gleason! And it's actually good!
That was a very nice surprise. Did they ever adapt any of the sequels?

Re: Currently Reading
Each series was a different book. They do the order Book 1, 3, 2 and drastically change book 3. Then there’s also an adaption of The Outsider (the 4th book or Holly Gibney spinoff #1). It was made by a different studio with a completely different cast but it was decent. I don’t think they did any of the other Holly stories beyond that.Sly Boots wrote: ↑Thu Dec 12, 2024 9:37 pmI finished Mr Mercedes and have started on the next one (forget the name right now).

Ah, good to know, I might leave the later seasons until after I've read the rest of the trilogy in that case...Alan wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 5:25 amEach series was a different book.
