E3 2019 - Press Conferences and News

Post by Medicine Man » Sun Jun 02, 2019 5:41 pm

Well the increasingly shrinking big event is only a week away so I thought I might as well chuck together a rough itinerary for all the fun times ahead.

Well only if they toss in cash shops into Wolfenstein and Doom Eternal, like they did RAGE 2. The other titles won't be shown this year I read but I reckon they will toss in some information if the reception isn't going well. But will they be daft enough to reveal something more with Fallout 76.

Maybe they will reveal the bags that collectors were meant to get? It's been what 4-6 months since they said people would get them

Only one I will definitely catch will be Devolver's show and I hope they hire that actress for every year.

Yeah looks like the 10th of June is the only day worth watching.

Nintendo have been my highlight of E3 for the last few years, but with them broadcasting a Direct for the new Pokemon game (probably their biggest release of 2019) earlier in the week, you have to wonder what they're going to be showing off. I think there's a good chance we'll see at least one of the new hardware revisions that have been rumoured for months, but I'm really hoping for something from Metroid Prime 4.

It looks pretty damned good to me. The chat portion of the livestream is still happening, and one of the terms they're throwing around is "thoughtful combat", and they're insisting that the gameplay shown off was performed by a very good player. That's exactly what I'm after; you can do some cool things, but not with just single button presses. They claim that it's not just canned animation, and that the "pull target towards you and stab him" move isn't just one action (though it does happen twice in exactly the same manner during that video).

There are minor things I hope they change; the lightsaber blade doesn't look right, and there's no incidental damage to the environment (ie: when the run animation makes the saber blade clip through a wall) like you got back in the Jedi Outcast days, but really this looks like the first big Star Wars title I've been excited for in a very long time.

It does look pretty good, though I'm a bit concerned that a spider can take four smacks to the face with a lightsaber and still be going; I hope gets fixed.

I'm surprised people thought that Fallen Order demo looked good. The combat looked terrible, with AI that seems to be incredibly dumb, only attacked one at a time and taking a few shots before pausing for five seconds. The only time it looked halfway decent was right at the end when you fought a large group of enemies. The powers looked cool but when the combat is that dull it doesn't matter how good they are. Other than that it looked like a generic third person game, take the Star Wars motif away and people wouldn't be giving it a second glance. I came away pretty disappointed, I think it really showed that Respawn had never made a third person game before.

Agreed. I thought it was a pretty mediocre showing. Force Unleashed 3 in all but name.

Anyway next up or technically first up is Microsoft at 9pm...

And it was all so slow the combat, including the baster rifle fire without even using the slow mo ability. Are they going for a lower rating as what's up with the lack of dismemberment when using the light saber. Also noticed it wouldn't mark walls and stuff when it clipped into them like it did in the previous Jedit Knight games.
