Currently Listening
Welcome to the actual "Currently Listening" thread, which won't turn into a specific genre thread. ¬_¬

Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

Re: Currently Listening
Loads of different genres and some really silly songs as usual. First one isn't a silly song as I discovered James Dean Bradfield had an album over a decade ago and I'm hooked on the guitar for this song.
This one however is totally stupid and fun to bang your head too.
New Clutch song is basically a funk metal crabcake recipe. Going to see them in December, squee!
This album has great energy.
BTBAM for me are one of the best progressive metal bands this century so far.
Moshpit certified.
Finally, Bristol based hip hop with overseas help.
Re: Currently Listening
I've been listening to quite a lot of 90s shoegaze and weird 2000s alt pop lately. Add in a whole bunch of MGMT and some nu-disco, just about sums it up.
I also finally got my hands on a copy of Devin Townsend live in Plovdiv recently and have been listening to it pretty extensively. The tracks with the live orchestra are fantastic, but hearing Ocean Machine live in full again is just extra special; brings back fond memories of seeing him do the whole thing in London last year. It's also a seriously cracking production effort, sounds immense when you crank the volume up.

Re: Currently Listening
Recently I discovered Shinedown. Their older albums are fine, but none of them really made an impression. Then I heard their latest effort, "ATTENTION, ATTENTION".
Fuckin' wow.
Don't know exactly what it is that drew me in, but the first track I heard was "THE HUMAN RADIO" (for some reason, all of the tracks on this album but one are all-caps):
Having heard that, I grabbed the album and was met with the first "proper" track on the album is "DEVIL", after a little intro track:
At the other end, the album wraps up with a really uplifting song, "BRILLIANT":
(Edit: oh, that video is cut off at the end slightly - that's mildly annoying)
(Try not to judge them on their awful over-acting when it comes to miming to the music in the videos)
I absolutely love this album, I've already bought tickets to see them in London in November.

Re: Currently Listening
I saw them live last year as support for Maiden and thought they were alright. Bit too po-faced for my taste and, being support, the crowd wasn't really that into them; but they had a few catchy songs. I quite like the newest album too.
Re: Currently Listening
First time I’ve listened to the deluxe version of Blast Tyrant and holy shit those acoustic versions are fantastic!
They should really do a full acoustic album either originals or reworking their old songs.

I could spam this thread all night most nights, but I've tried not to.
However, it seems silly to not post anything, so let's break the seal with:

Okilly Dokilly. The world's first Ned Flanders themed metalcore band.

I really don't get the fascination with Tool – they're always cropping up in "Things You Might Like" lists and such, but I just find they bore me to tears.
Re: Currently Listening
I think Lateralus is a great album, both lyrically and musically; it's got a lot of funky time signatures that they effortlessly groove on, and I'm pretty into that kind of stuff.
The others didn't do much for me and I kind of bounced off them.
