To my knowledge if they where adding mtx it was to the multiplayer side of the game with some saying just cosmetics stuff, The Jackal. Nothing to do with the SP side. MP is being done by another team if I recall correctly. So I'm not even sure how that ties in the SP side if at all. Could be a Mass Effect bore of mp with skins to buy.

But till there is concrete info all of this has was blown way out of proportions from a badly done article that people should have went to the source for confirmation instead of having egg on their faces.

Level boosters, extra currency, stuff like that. They are usually called time savers to allow people with more money than time to get through a game quicker, the last two Assassins Creed games had quite a few of them.
