As an aside, how the fuck do SP microtransactions work? Who on earth is paying to get an advantage over Campaign Mode??
Level boosters, extra currency, stuff like that. They are usually called time savers to allow people with more money than time to get through a game quicker, the last two Assassins Creed games had quite a few of them.
Disgusting.

Could be wrong but didn't the last AC game force you to level up by doing extra missions just to get the next story mission started? As someone that does side missions in games for fun those that just want the story side are pretty much forced to then?

I think that was one of the reasons for the XP boosts and it's pretty much scummy then.

Didn't the last Dead Space game also have single-player MTX?

I won't say that I'd never play a game that did that, but I haven't done so so far, and to be honest it does put me off quite a bit. It's a practice that needs to die. Games shouldn't be artificially padded to coerce players into paying more to skip it - and if you've developed a game that players want to skip swathes of, you're doing it wrong.

There was a lot of talk around the time that the game made you grind but I think that was people just seeing the microtransactions and then thinking the only reason they would be put in is if the game had been artificially lengthened. I played all the way through the game and never had to grind once, I don't know anyone who actually felt the game was forcing you to grind. If the microtransactions hadn't been there nobody would have said anything about the game forcing you to grind which says everything about the validity of the statements.

Dead Space 3 did indeed have similar microtransactions Sly.

It is a bit of a non-issue to my mind, provided that games aren't made artificially grindy to encourage buying time-saving stuff.

I suppose in AssCreed you could take the view that not being able to explore the level 50 areas at level 5 hampered you in some way, but it bothered me not at all. The game had plenty to interest me and I can honestly say I never really gave my level much thought. I suppose there are people out there that just mainline the central story narrative and never explore or so any side missions) that might want these boosters, but to me they are completely irrelevant.

I tend to view games that have XP boosts or such as they have been artificially padded and there is no way to prove it either side. I certainly don't trust anyones words from the dev's to the publishers on that.

It can still be a good game but one that I will clearly pass on getting.

Yeesh, so that's both Final Fantasy 7 Remake *and* Cyberpunk delayed. March has gone from best month ever to intolerable wait.

As I said in the games of the year thread, I kinda wasn't even really expecting it to be out this year, so in a way if that's the case it's pretty much a bonus

An extra 6 months is a long time but it just means it'll be that more polished (or Polish'ed if you will...)

Yeah, a six month delay isn't going to have been requested on a whim. Honestly I can't say I'm all that fussed about this; I'm certainly interested in the game but I can't say I'm excited yet. I think I need to see someone other than a developer play it.

Not really but I have more interest in that than a cash grab of a bad game. ¬_¬
