According to the wee blurb on Netflix it's going to be all about Vesemir.

The animation in Legend of Korra was excellent, so that's a good pick.
Re: The Witcher - The Netflix Series
Well I finished the last episode earlier and I'm really impressed. Although a bit of thought was required to keep track during the first few episodes with the timeline jiggery-pokery, it all fell into place nicely. Lots of highs and only one or two brief lows, I'm really looking forward to the next season.
Cavill was pretty decent, but his performance was just one aspect. If anything, Yennefer's story arc ended up seeming the most prominent and engaging. Ciri's story perhaps was lacking at times; some of her sequences often ended up with not a lot really happening narrative-wise, as if we were just dipping in occasionally to be reminded she was still on the run.
But it all came together and mixed nicely for a pleasing whole. More of the same in 2021 please!

I've been rereading the books over the past couple of months, am on the penultimate one now - and there are three people in there I've never heard of

It would seem that even big sexy Gerald and his super-duper boosted Witchery immune system isn't safe.....

Remember when we're were all obliviously watching the Witcher? Back in those halcyon days just before the world shat the bed. Happy times.
Re: The Witcher - The Netflix Series
Surprised they're already making a spin-off show, normally they come along further down the line. I would have thought they need the 2nd season to bed in first at least.
But then Netflix have a tendency to plan things a little differently.

If I were a betting man I would say that an origin story will help those previously unaware of Geralt and his Witcher-y buddies understand the nuance, as well as giving another fantasy fix. Will make for more folks enjoying S2 and beyond - they came in for some stick on S1 due to the timeline leaping about, think it turned a lot of potential viewers off.

That's definitely the impression I got from a friend who had no prior knowledge of The Witcher franchise, I think she stopped watching halfway through. I can't say I'm a fan of pointless timeline buggery either, it feels like a lazy way of generating intrigue when your narrative otherwise wouldn't support it.
Re: The Witcher - The Netflix Series
I'm guessing a major reason for it was because otherwise the actress playing Ciri wouldn't have been introduced until at least halfway through, or even later. The novels as a whole are as much (arguably even more) her story than Geralt's, so I can see why they wanted their co-/main protagonist in it from the start. They've said it will follow a much more linear timeline from season 2 onwards, which seems to support that.
But it did make viewing a bit peculiar, even for someone familiar with the lore like myself. My wife would likely not have stuck with it if I hadn't been explaining the timeline stuff as it went on.

I don't get why they didn't at least have text prompts along the lines of "30 years ago", "Present day", etc. I like how all the different threads converged in the last episode, which I thought paid off, but there was no need for the timelines to be so intentionally confusing for the rest of the season.

Yeah, it would have helped a lot of people. They did have a reason for it, though can't remember what it was.Wrathbone wrote: βTue Jul 28, 2020 8:51 amI don't get why they didn't at least have text prompts along the lines of "30 years ago", "Present day", etc. I like how all the different threads converged in the last episode, which I thought paid off, but there was no need for the timelines to be so intentionally confusing for the rest of the season.
