The Covid-19 Thread
Re: The Covid-19 thread
If that's possible, it's going to happen just because of the sheer number of infected people, surely.
I couldn't be told to work from home as my job is entirely public-facing. I'd fucking love to be told to self-isolate because it would effectively be telling me not to have to do my horrible job for a few weeks.

Re: The Covid-19 thread
A study by Oxford University found evidence of it using genetic recombination rather than mutation, which hasn't been seen in a virus before. I won't pretend to fully understand the science or implications, but it appears that it can take on new traits from other similar strains to make it stronger. If you'll forgive a hyperbolic and probably inaccurate statement, it's essentially Peter Petrelli or Sylar from Heroes.Achtung Englander wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 1:34 pmI fear this virus mutating into something a lot more deadlier

Stock markets are tumbling
Brent is at $36 barrel....I bet you the pump price does not go south below £1.20. If oil was free we would still be paying over a quid
If the Govt quarantine's London it will crash the footsie

The stock market today is a knock-on effect from the outbreak, but not a direct one. The issue is that Russia and Opec can't agree on a price cut due to the reduced demand, and Opec is undercutting them to prove how powerful they are. It's a political move.

Just down at the local supermarket, the bog roll section has taken a major pounding. Saw one old chap carrying out enough of the stuff to wallpaper his house with it.

beggars belief. Apparently most bog paper is made locally, so all this shortage is meaningless as more will get made.

Indeed. I'm just imagining the CEO of Andrex putting his fingers together and slowly saying "Goooood..."
As a matter of fact, on a clear day I can see the town where some Andrex products are made.

Aaaand three cases confirmed in Basingstoke, where I live, in the last 24 hours. All were at the same factory, for Italian coffee company Lavezzo.

I've been delving back into the world of Skyrim these last few weeks, to get away from it all. No viruses there!

They'll have to prise pizza out of my cold, dead, coronavirused fingers.
The last time I had full-blown flu (about 10 years ago), when I was at the tail end of it and had some appetite back I decided to flush out my system with the hottest curry I could stand. Kind of like a format C:\, start again option. It worked as well - felt fine the next day! So that's Dr Wrathbone's unqualified advice: spice will see you through.
