Re: Indie Game News/Releases
I picked up Curse of the Dead Gods a few weeks ago.
It's a decent enough game, and if I had to compare it with something, it'd be Hades. Although Hades just has a charm and magic that draws me in much more easily than this early access game.
I think i just like the environments, pallette and mood more in Hades.
That said, I do see real potential in this game. You have a stamina bar for attacks and dodge, and parry skills, albeit a little unforgiving on precision.
As you progress you accumulate curse points - either each time you clear a room, but also from purchases and upgrades in the dungeon, and enemy attacks. So you want to try and avoid the attacks as much as possible. Enemies are well telegraphed and for the most part, when you mess up, it's your fault.
Upgrades are paid either in curse points, or gold, if you found enough. It's a trade off between getting upgrades or avoiding too many curses too soon.
Each time you get 100 curse you earn a handicap, effectively, which acts as a randomiser for each run.
I think as a bargain buy it's pretty decent. Keen to see how balancing and additional content adjusts this.It IS challenging though, especially if you're impatient and greedy like me.

Re: Indie Game News/Releases
I really enjoyed Cloudpunk, was nice and relaxed, with interesting characters and story.
I am looking forward to Carrion which is out tomorrow. You know the premise, the laboratory complex which inadvertantly lets a monster loose... only in this you are the monster. An amorphous ball of gloop and tentacles and teeth, you can slither up walls and through ducts, getting larger as you consume carrion that you make out of the scientists and guards in the lab.
Played the demo through twice and really enjoyed it - give it a spin yourself maybe

I do plan on getting that at some point (pending reviews), but I'm forcing myself to finish the games I've got. Let us know if it's worthwhile.

Got my days wrong, it's out today. Will duly canary it and report back, but really enjoyed the demo so have high hopes.

I just got the notification to say it's free on Gamepass for XBox. It may well be available on the service for Pc also, but in my experience the notifications usually come a day later than the console ones.

Had a quick bash of Carrion and it's good. It's easy to get lost on the levels though and I tended to blunder into the right areas to progress. Music is very Alien 3, which is appropriate.
Re: Indie Game News/Releases
I second this, being a toothy amorphous blob is fun!

While not a lot of story in Carrion, that review is quite spoiler-y (in terms of how you evolve, powers etc). Just so's you know going in. Decent review though.

Hatred
Everything about this game is wrong and amoral but bloody hell it is a lot of fun. The mass murder of civilians and human shields (soldiers) is abhorent and the executions to get health to 100% is disgusting. I am playing this again
