General Film News

Post by Maturin » Tue Aug 21, 2018 6:19 pm

So Danny Boyle has 'pulled out' (or been removed) from directing the new Bond film.

I did wonder whether it was a decent match when I first heard he was directing. His films are nearly always eclectic and quirky, whereas Bond is pretty rigid.

I must admit it was hard giving up the old one.

I feel I may have lost my mystical edge along with it, but on the plus side I may have discovered my true final form.

I think the Bond franchise needs to be shaken up a bit; getting a bit tired of Craig and all the conventional tropes.
Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

Would you say it needs to be shaken, but not stirred?

Yes, I think it needs a break for 4 or 5 years, like what happened after Die Another Day. (Jesus what a prize turd of a film)

Casino Royale felt so fresh and new afterwards.

I think the Bond franchise just needs to end.

I loved Casino Royale, I don't understand how they managed to lose everything that was good about that movie and make such a string of boring, overly serious sequels.

I did see a comment on a news site earlier along the lines of "Good news, Boyle is an SJW so taking away his chance to push his agenda on Bond is excellent".

It's an interesting point regarding the female characters. Vesper was a really well written, complex character in CR - but since then they've reverted to them all being shallow Bond babes again. Pretty much.

I haven't watched a Bond film since Casino Royale.

Last one I saw in the cinema was Die Another Day.
