Advanced Heroquest: Quest II: The Tomb of Dragomir - Completed
Re: Advanced Heroquest: Quest II: The Tomb of Dragomir
Ok, to clarify where I am gold-wise... yesterday for my new char I rolled 70 gold then inherited 77 from Paulo... I spent 100g on my initial equipment leaving me 47g in the bank.
I then got 100g for a quest reward for the halfling cook and a 100g advance, so I make that I now have 227g to spend once living costs are deducted?
Seeing as I won't be investing in armour that will negatively impact on my ranged skill, I'm a bit at a loss what else to buy.
Maturin, I'm sure I read in the rules that arrows can be reclaimed after combat, is that your understanding? If so I've already got 12 so not sure I need more.
I believe I will pay to add +1 to my ranged skill though, if you would be kind enough to say how that affects those numbers?

Arrows can potentially be reclaimed after combat via a dice roll - you need to roll a 10 or more for each arrow to reclaim it - so you should occasionally be able to reclaim some. You may need some more arrows, it's hard to say. Although you may also discover some in treasure chests throughout the dungeon also.
After your training costs you have 27g to spend. There's a couple of very useful equipment items worth 25g which nobody has purchased yet...could come in handy.
With your current bow skill now raised to 10, please fill in your Ranged skill table with 3,3,4,5,6.

Thanks mate. As to the equipment, after learning about the need to roll to recover arrows, I think I shall invest in another 12 though to be on the safe side, leaving me 7g.

No probs! It's going to be interesting how the dungeon pans out regarding arrows/reclaiming them. Some battles might have quite a few turns. We'll keep a note of each arrow fired.
If it looks like at one point there's going to be nowhere near enough arrows for the quest, I might make a little house rule on this occasion, making it easier to reclaim them.

Re: Advanced Heroquest: Quest II: The Tomb of Dragomir
Sounds good. i did buy a sword though and I don't think I should be entirely useless with it if the need arises (although given lack of armour I'd hopefully avoid too much hand to hand action)...

Re: Advanced Heroquest: Quest II: The Tomb of Dragomir
There's one issue you may have forgotten.
You all had to pay 20 Gold in Living Expenses after the last quest (10 + 5 for each Fate Point you have = 20), which came out of the 77 you found in the dungeon.
Here we go!
I rolled up a new character with 50 gold, took the remaining 57 from Gibnar, took the 100 due to Gibnar from the Baron's reward + 100 advanced payment from Lord White.
I bought a Two-Handed Axe for 50 Gold, a Crossbow + 12 Bolts for 50 Gold then with the 200 I received from the combined payments of the Baron and Lord Whitestone I bought some training and upgraded my Weapon Skill from 9 to 10.
I have 7 Gold remaining, with which I will buy a 10' rope, leaving 2 Gold left over in my pocket. Let's go kill some rats!

I believe most of us have factored the living expenses in.
Seems like we're just about ready to adventure forth.

I mentioned the living expenses on the previous page.
Thanks for the updated character sheets guys. I'd just like Tichinde to confirm what he wants to do with his money. At the time I don't think he realised how much he had to spend.

I knew that, of course. Just testing.

Bellis and Gamrolin, feel free to think up a name for your henchmen and add them to their character sheets:
You will be in charge of keeping them updated during the quest, along side your hero character sheet.
The halberd attacks diagonally by the way.

Re: Advanced Heroquest: Quest II: The Tomb of Dragomir
A word on sentries; there's a chance you will come across them occasionally. There's a low risk of me rolling them when placing monsters.
A room with a sentry will always have a separate door, and the sentry will always attempt to leave the room through that door to look for help, so you may need to adjust your tactics accordingly.
There's nothing in the rules to stop me sending the sentry round the entire map, generating hordes of reinforcements, but I'm going to play it so that once it finds the first set of monsters - either wandering monsters or room-monsters - it will come back towards the battle with that single group of monsters and fight. Otherwise things could get a bit silly.

Re: Advanced Heroquest: Quest II: The Tomb of Dragomir
With that in mind, I don't know if I should act as a scout of sort and open the room doors? It means if there is a sentry I could perhaps take him down with a shot before he's able to run for help?

Re: Advanced Heroquest: Quest II: The Tomb of Dragomir
Well, if you win the surprise roll and attack first, all of you can pile into the room anyway, potentially trapping the sentry and killing some of them in one turn.
With skaven being physically weaker than orcs, and with 2 henchmen to help out, you'll probably be able to burst into rooms regularly.
The problem with standing at the doorway with your elf is his lack of armour. If the skaven surprise you, their strongest fighter could head straight for you and attack first.
