The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
If you're all this far ahead with planning Campaign 2 characters then I might as well let you know the premise for the interlude campaign so you can start thinking about that. I pay for the DnD Beyond subscription so have unlimited character slots available and always find myself quickly creating one when I get an idea for something to possibly do in the future, or to rework as an NPC at a later date.
The premise will be a casino heist in a very remote city on a very cold and snowy continent, with opportunities all around the city to explore, gather intel and investigate things etc etc. I believe my friend was planning on rolling with a monk who owed a lot of money to some rather bad people.

It's probably as good a time as any to say that I've made a rough plan of the character to play in the mini-campaign, and upon reading that I'm pretty sure he's going to be next-to uselessMantis wrote: ↑Tue Jun 22, 2021 8:26 pmIf you're all this far ahead with planning Campaign 2 characters then I might as well let you know the premise for the interlude campaign so you can start thinking about that. Don't be too certain of that, there'll be plenty of ways to accomplish whatever goals you set yourself and a balance of social and combat. It'll just be a case of dropping you into the city with the premise and letting you go about it however you want, so you can try going down routes you think your character will be good at if you liked, assuming he's going to be good at anything at all of course.
It'll definitely be starting at level 5.

This is a big assumption

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Given I'll be going for another ranged character in Wrath's next campaign I'll go for a melee character in Mantis'. I'll have a look over the options later.
Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
If anyone has any premise for a backstory that they would like to work in then let me know. Without giving too much away, there's a decent scope to fit things in more than just centering everyone on being thieves out to get a big score.
Depending on how it plays out, I'm vaguely planning on the whole adventure running from level 5 to about the 10-12 region.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
I'm definitely going down the altruistic path rather than a thief, although my character is going to be incredibly naive and probably able to be coerced into criminal acts (assuming the rest of the party is able to be suitably persuasive)
I'm going to be a melee type as well.
I've rolled the character, but I haven't fully fleshed out their backstory as yet.
I'll PM you a little character precis Mantis, just to make sure it won't completely screw up your campaign. But I thought it would be quite amusing and fun to play.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
No problem, I'm sure I can fit stuff in without having to change too much. To be honest, it'll be easier if some characters have other reasons for being there as it'll give you convenient plot hooks to investigate other stuff rather than just beeline for the main dungeon, under leveled and TPK in the first two sessions.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
I have an idea for my character which I'll PM details about when I've got some time (been a busy couple of days!), but the gist is a half-orc wizard who comes from old money, and now that money is gone due to his own financial ignorance. I see him as the self-professed academic who all the other established academics facepalm at because he has talent but is completely reckless, kind of like how Indiana Jones is a renowned archeologist who wrecks every ruin he visits. His skills are frequently misused.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Sounds great. From what's been suggested to me so far this sounds like it's going to be a right weird band of misfits.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
If there's one thing I've discovered while rolling these characters, it's just how rubbish my ability rolls for Charr were.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
I don't know how DnD Beyond works with transferring characters between campaigns, so here's the invite for the one I'll be running.
I just set it up and discovered the encounter creator. I didn't realise how handy this would be in balancing and scaling the encounters!
Spoiler
I've got content sharing enabled as I own the PHB, DMG, Xanathar, Volo's, Mordenkainen’s, Monster Manual and Tasha's Cauldron; which I think covers the majority of the character creation options.
