Back 4 Blood
Re: Back 4 Blood
Yeah, that was my point. Plus, y'know, then a hundred other games basically for free.

Aussie Question Inflection I think he means.
Re: Back 4 Blood
I think I've lost my ear for that Aussie twang as I listen to Pestily on Youtube/Twitch, when he plays Tarkov, nearly daily
Good commentary on B4B though.

Re: Back 4 Blood
Australian Question Intonation I thought it was called but yes, that! It originated in Australia then spread to California from the likes of Paris Hilton and has been spreading insidiously here ever since. Also sometimes called 'Uptalk'.
A truly idiotic speech pattern, it makes the speaker sound like they have no idea what they are talking about. My wife loves Masterchef Australia (it is the best of the bunch that I have seen) but it means I have to listen to these endless cunts who don't know a question from a statement.

I watched that when it first aired, it's where I know the term from. But man, Fry is so derogatory of how people speak as if they've made a choice to inflect in that manner, which really grates on me these days. Language is a very fluid thing, it ebbs and flows and changes significantly depending on external influences, and I find that fascinating. "Buffy-speak" was so incredibly influential that I still use elements of it today some 15 years after the show finished.
It also doesn't help that I had a customer pretty much yelling down the phone at me the other day for my starting sentences with "Ok, so..." (the guy was a complete self-important, belligerent arsehole), and I had to try and stop myself from doing it, and changing your own verbal mannerisms is really fucking hard.

Re: Back 4 Blood
I dread to think what my response to someone that obnoxious would be, but I'd probably be clearing out my desk when the call ended. Being rude or shouting at someone trying to help you is bad enough, but berating them for a speech pattern (particularly one that's perfectly ordinary and not remotely aggravating by any rational measure) is beyond the pale.Raid wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 7:14 amIt also doesn't help that I had a customer pretty much yelling down the phone at me the other day for my starting sentences with "Ok, so..." What did he say - "stop saying that!"
What a wanker. I would never think about correcting an adult on how they speak.

Is Neth still around anywhere?
We used to hammer L4D back in the day. I'd be up for reconnecting so we could have a blast through this, too.

Re: Back 4 Blood
I did, a little while back. Back when I was smoking and went to an office there was a young lass talking with another. The first was using 'like' as if it were a comma and every other thing that she said happened was prefaced 'literally'. I pointed out that she meant figuratively at one point, I couldn't help myself.Achtung Englander wrote: ↑Wed Aug 11, 2021 5:28 pmWhat did he say - "stop saying that!"

As to Neth, he is indeed still around - now named 2ChannelWonder on here. He tried to hook up with me for a L4D session a while back but I was hooked up with some couple of mates and sadly didn't have a spot free. Definitely up for some B4B with Neth and any others who want a blast - Neth was one of the most enjoyable organisers I have gamed with, running a tight tactical ship!

Re: Back 4 Blood
I came away from this thinking it was fairly 'meh', but I'd be up for playing with the gang at some point. Just like old times with Prey, Neth, Paul, Snowy etc. I'm definitely not paying £50 for it though, fuck that.
Re: Back 4 Blood
Day 1 on Gamepass - I won't pay anything for it specifically. Gamepass is fantastic value if you aren't signed up.
I enjoyed it but it didn't set me alight with anticipation that's for certain. However, it is a new co-op game and I love me co-op play so that will do me.

Good times. I really do miss those days.
