There are many things I'm not keen on with American culture, but their gun culture is just next level in that regard. When you can pose for a family photo wielding a light machine gun that would make even our own armed response police force blush you know there's something not quite right. You just know that every posing American in photos like that sees themselves as the hero of their own little story.

I think it's totally abhorrent.
Agreed, 100%
If Edwin's being an Edwin does he call himself an Edwin?

The box itself will be made from three-inch-thick steel and cantilevered off granite. Inside will be a system of Internet-connected storage drives powered by solar panels on the box’s roof.
“It’s built to outlive us all,” Jonathan Kneebone, cofounder of the Glue Society, told ABC. “If the worst does happen, just because the power grids go down, this thing will still be there.”
I'm already starting to see some design flaws there. A whole 3 inches thick, why that would deter someone for at least an hour or so from getting inside it! And let's hope no one steals the solar panels due to the power grid being down.

Probably not really news but this cracked me up and I couldn't find another thread that suited -

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

You know it's going to be bad when phrases like "droplets of meat molecules" are used - not by the reviewer, incidentally, but the waiting staff

I love stuff like this, reading Jay Rayner's scathing restaurant reviews has long been a guilty pleasure of mine.

This is probably my favourite:

And it's worth checking out the difference between the marketing shots the restaurant insisted he use in the review, and the ones he took on the day:

This showed up on Reddit's /r/wewantplates. The foam that you need to suck out of a plaster cast of the chef's mouth is the 5th most upvoted entry on that subreddit of all time after just one day, and is the most repulsive idea for a dining experience I've ever seen.

Remember when "chef's kiss" used to refer to something really good? Yeah, that's dead to me now.

Glad to find another guilty fan of Mr Rayner's wonderful reviews. His good ones are as enjoyable as the bad, but somehow I had missed this peach Sly so many thanks for the link.
"The dining room, deep in the hotel, is a broad space of high ceilings and coving, with thick carpets to muffle the screams. It is decorated in various shades of taupe, biscuit and fuck you. There’s a little gilt here and there, to remind us that this is a room designed for people for whom guilt is unfamiliar. It shouts money much as football fans shout at the ref. There’s a stool for the lady’s handbag. Well, of course there is."
My lips purse, like a cat’s arse that’s brushed against nettles.
