The thing that galls me most about all this is that $44bn has been wasted for no credible reason. Imagine if Musk had assigned that money to someone competent and told them to fix one of the many great problems the world faces. In a decade we could have been without Alzheimer’s or malaria; starvation could have been largely solved; flood defences in areas at high risk from global warming could have been bolstered; the 500 best free schools in the world could have been built.
Instead he’s spaffed all the money up the wall and displaced thousands of lives to no avail. Someone should throw him in a hole and tarmac over him.
This, 100 fucking percent. I simply cannot fathom it, if I became wealthy like that, I would be the single biggest fucking philanthropist with world has ever seen, setting up all the necessary infrastructure with the assets at my disposal to ensure it delivered, with everyone working in it well paid. Imagine how it would feel, knowing the huge positive impact your day to day work was having on the
world.
Fucking Twitter? Seriously? What a Edwin.

Indeed. It's more than twice the amount estimated to be required to solve homelessness in the United States. Just imagine having the capability to do that, without any significant damage to your own status, and then not doing that. The WMF estimated that it would take just $6billion to end world hunger.
I just don't get the billionaire mindset. Ok, keep a billion to yourself if you feel like you've earned it, give yourself and your family an incredible life, but for fucks sakes Elon you still have $190 BILLION DOLLARS afterwards. You could fix half of the world's problems with that. I can't think of a better legacy to have than philanthropy.

You don't become rich like that by being nice, you apparently have to be a horrible Edwin.

A certain type of person is attracted to that sort of status.

They have voids that cannot be filled, so 'filling' them becomes their only meaning. Musk is void as fuck.

Well he's running out of employees to force into performance reviews, he's probably got more time on his hands now.

Thing is, his "Lmaooo" (it requires caps you fucking wannabe) is to something so deliriously not funny. What a colossal veined wand.

But…
why?
Even if Twitter has no staff left to enforce the policy, simply having the policy does no harm and makes it easy to deal with the worst cases of misinformation being spread. The police don’t have the resources to solve most burglaries, but making burglary legal would obviously be disastrous. Whatever ‘amnesty’ rubbish Musk is peddling, this will result in the remaining dregs of Twitter becoming even more of a cesspool of lies because it’s a direct signal that misinformation on covid is now completely fine.

Part of me thinks they needed to remove the policy to let the people who were banned for breaching it back. There're a few mentioned in the article, including a "doctor" that claims covid vaccines are either ineffective or dangerous.
The other part of me thinks that Musk just sits in his living room smoking weed and calls Twitter's head of policy (which at this point I assume is one of the door guards pulling double duty) every time he has a thought in his head.
