Watched that last night. Suffice to say I'm not giving it the benefit of the doubt any more, but I can't help but want to see it out of morbid curiosity now.

I'm seeing the odd comment from people online saying while it's not great it's actually quite fun overall. Rotten Tomatoes is at 10% but the user score is just over 50%, so it might be one of those situations where a massive critical pile-on is taking place.

I mean, it probably is pretty bad though.

In a world where Doom, Hitman and Prince of Persia exist, it's quite impressive to be the worst in the genre

Perhaps they should have chosen TV format instead, although Fallout has probably stolen its thunder in that area (vaults, wasteland setting, etc). Not sure about the timing either, Borderlands is a distant memory for many gamers now.

The latest mainline Borderlands is more recent than the latest mainline Fallout, and I don't think either was especially well received at launch (B3's story was poor, F4 had the "Another settlement needs help!" meme - maybe not the same level of disparagement but they both had their issues). Obviously Fallout has had more staying power over the years and it's a more cohesive game world, but I think the franchise's reputation was bolstered by the TV series just because of how well made it was. The same could have happened with Borderlands if they'd had a similarly lavish production, but that's evidently not been the case.

Is it perhaps a candidate for a forum-viewing? Jump on Discord, cue up the movie, and away we go...?

It made $4m on opening weekend, for a $110-120m budget. It's projected to possibly not even reach $10m in total.

Haha, once it hits streaming (which may be sooner rather than later looking at those theatrical release figures, yikes) I'd definitely be up for that!

They announced the DVD / blu ray release (date TBC) and made it available for pre-order before the film had actually hit cinemas, which basically never happens.

It was originally filmed in 2021and took 3 years to be released. The script writer had his name removed from the credits as well, who happens to be the same guy who wrote Chernobyl and The Last of Us tv show... I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that what his original script got butchered and he wisely chose to distance himself from it.

Deep Blue Sea
How I managed never to see this late 90's trash until a couple of days ago amazes me. Scientists breed super intelligent sharks because their brains have the cure for Alzheimer's....yeah.. What follows is some of 1999's most mid budget cgi and awesome deaths. People get chomped apart and eaten in glorious (cgi) detail. A helicopter crash sees several people get engulfed in flames in slow motion, someone had fun with the deaths here. I can only imagine what a nightmare this must have been to make with animatronics and sea water. Worth a watch if only to see Samuel L Jackson get pulled apart by brainy sharks.

This is really great considering it was made by a couple of Youtubers on an $800 budget

Puts the likes of Borderlands and The Crow remake to shame.

That is disturbing but very good. I assume the $120 million Hollywood remake is already in the works...

Hundreds of Beavers

I think I enjoyed this. Maybe? Hard to say, it's such a bizarre film.

Imagine a black and white, kind of live-action, part stop-motion / animation Loony Tunes silent film, with hints of Monty Python, Ingmar Bergman and video games. As a concept it's unique and full of potential, but the execution is sometimes amateurish and the comedy can fall flat. And it waaaaay overstays its welcome at a gruelling 108 minutes, for an idea that should be 20 minutes at most.

But it's endearing in a weird way. Very weird ways. It's so perpetually dumb that I found myself just going with it and eventually enjoying it. Would I recommend it? No, not really, but I don't regret watching it.

5/10
