I am utterly clueless when it comes to stuff like this so a bit of handholding may be required.
I assume things like +D2 means you get 2 extra points to whatever the dice roll was?

No problem, I'll do my best to hold hands.
So, there's no "+D2".
There's "DR+2" which means adding +2 to the number you have to hit on a d20 when making a test, which is a bad thing, as it's harder to achieve.
So, when wearing chainmail, while it gives you a -d4 damage reduction when you're hit (a great thing), also adds a +2DR to your Agility, meaning it's harder to dodge.
Most d20 tests require 12 to pass. DR+2 means you have to roll 14 or higher.
Example:
So, there's no "+D2".

Most d20 tests require 12 to pass. DR+2 means you have to roll 14 or higher.
Example:
- A bandit attacks you with a dagger.
- You're wearing chainmail (-d4, DR+2 to Agility)
- You roll a d20 to test Agility, to avoid being hit.
- Your Agility ability is +1, so you add a +1 to your roll.
- You roll a 12. You might think that this is a success, because the standard pass number (DR) is 12, and you scored 13 (roll + Ability bonus). But...
- ...because your chainmail is DR+2, you pass the defence test on 14 instead of 12, because it's a bit harder to dodge in mail.
- With your roll of 12 and your Agility at +1, you get a final score of 13, which is insufficient to pass. You're hit with the dagger.
- The damage roll for the dagger is d4. Say the result is...3. That would result in you losing 3 HP.
- But, because you're wearing chainmail, you roll a d4 and deduct the result from the damage roll.
- Say you roll a 4. Huzzah! You reduced more damage than the dagger dealt, therefore, you're unharmed.

- Escaped cult member. Terrified and paranoid. Other cultists are everywhere.
- Being tracked and observed by a golem after an agreement which you know has been wiped from your mind.
- In massive debt. The debt is being traded to successively more ruthless groups.
Well, 6 was the first so it seems fair to choose that one.

True enough, but, the second one seems fitting to your character description.
"A deal was struck minutes from freezing to death on the way to Alliáns."

I made a deal to join the cult, and after some passing of time and tortuous indoctrination, I had an epiphany and ran away, fresh with dubious musical skills that often ended with death to the listener....

Grin is happy that he has brought the party to the attention of the Two Headed Basilisks of the One Trve Faith, it can surely only end well.
In the market, Grin buys:
- Exquisite perfume, to cover the stench of his rotting face
- Lard, because chewing food is for fools. Less chewing allows for more time desecrating.
- A bear trap, due to reasons of his own
- His whip he sells for 5 silver, his anti-prayer crook is all the protection he requires. Unfortunately he forgot that he had got 5 silver for the whip and walked out without it. The merchant is confused but pleased, having spent half an hour with this strange masked individual who insisted on haggling like a fiend but kept forgetting where the haggling had reached and doing himself a worse deal. He could have had 15 silver at one point, not that it mattered in the end.
- A monkey named Sploooooooom, whom Grin has made his acolyte and seneschal both.
- Leaving 22 silver for sundry expenses. If only he could remember where he put his bloody money pouch.

Excellent!
Now, one more thing, can everyone roll me a d12, for your STAR SIGN?

15...if that doesn't work, 8 was next...
Also, if Grin's trap is successful we should name the animal 'It'.

It doesn't work because a d12 doesn't have a 15 on it! Try a d12 this time.

Can you roll me an additional d6 as a result of this roll?
