Sanctions don't apply just to the government, they apply to literally any payment made to a country / person. If for whatever reason I were sanctioned (say, I were for some reason critical of the US regime and the guy at the top took that personally because he's got skin like tissue paper), my own grandmother wouldn't be able to send me birthday money because the bank would have committed a crime in putting it through the payment system.

I think that story last week about the Russian pipeline is evidence enough that US companies would be bloody delighted to trade with Russia if it made line go up. Sanctions aren't pointless, but I don't believe for a second that Trump will actually impose them - this feels like a non-story to make it look like he's not two and a half inches up Putin's backside.

This is what happens when the worst and the dumbest get into power. The people who voted them in may have just lost their jobs, any benefits they were on and the support structures are all being closed down. Fuck those people and the ones who didn't vote, it's the other half of the country (and now the world) that is suffering. This should destroy the Republican party and any shred of credibility they had remaining but it just doesn't work like that unfortunately.
