Well, yeah, that feels like an appropriate move by Nintendo, and I dare say other manufacturers of relatively high-end goods will do the same. The price of a Switch just went up by $100 or more in the US overnight, they need to rethink their entire marketing strategy because it now costs the same as one of the other major consoles did last week. It's a fairly different value proposition.

I had a distinctively lengthy love/hate relationship with Destiny 2 *as do many* and to date it retains the value of being one of my most played games in my Steam listing. In a few days time we will finally get to see what they have coming next. Destiny 2 was a game I both loathed and craved in equal measures but I'm rather happy to say I'm finally free of its grasp today, Bungie turned it into something purely detestable in the end.

I'd say I'm moderately excited for a Marathon reimagining - I adore their tight gun play, but we all know what may come along right with it if D2 taught us anything.

Yeah the gameplay footage looks remarkably dull.

Shouldn't they change the name to Snickers?

I'd really love to know the boardroom logic that goes into turning Marathon, a game that would have seemed ancient when much of the intended audience (as well as the development team) were born, that involved running through a claustrophobic spaceship killing aliens, into a brightly coloured extraction shooter. I'm not all that familiar with the original (I doubt many are; who owned a Mac in the early to mid-90s?), but looking through gameplay videos, I can't see a single aesthetic element that's transferred over. Maybe I'm wildly underestimating the average age of the player base of these extraction shooters, but I suspect the people with any nostalgia for the name at all aren't among them.

I can't see what possible reason there is to use that IP to create an entirely new game.

Looks potentially exciting, but it has my Star Wars pet peeve from the Disney era: yet another Jedi who apparently survived Order 66 (unless it’s just a random force user who happens to have a lightsaber, I guess). I can’t listen to Yoda telling Luke he’ll be the last of the Jedi anymore without sighing heavily at the knowledge that there was a veritable army of Jedi scattered about who could have teamed up with Yoda and Obi Wan at any point in the Imperial era to gank Vader and the Emperor. You know, rather than sending the barely-trained son of the guy who supposedly killed most of the Jedi to finish the job by himself. Sheer dumb luck, Yoda - that’s all I’m saying.

Game could be decent though!

They tend to get around it by either their technically no longer being Jedi as if you're not paying your membership dues you don't count (Ahsoka), or their not having graduated Jedi school (Cal Kestis), or having them die before ESB (Obi Wan, too many others to count). So what Yoda said was true, from a certain point of view.

Anyway, screenshots were leaked from this last month. It's possible it's set in the Clone Wars - there are Phase II Clone troopers and a LAAT - so having numerous Jedi available would make sense. Bo Katan is there, and she seems to be attacking Clone troopers, so that would presumably make it early Clone Wars era (unless they're bad guys masquerading as Clones, there were presumably millions of sets of that armour made) as the Mandalorians were vaguely antagonistic towards the Republic (Mandalorians traditionally don't get on with Jedi) until the siege of Mandalore.

It's absolutely right up my street this, and I'm looking forward to the proper reveal.

Fair point - I was assuming it was set in the Imperial era (or shortly after) because most Star Wars media is at the moment. Setting it in the Clone Wars would be quite refreshing.
