Scene II: Horsehead Ranch

"Well, you can call me Doc, on account of my highly skilled, and completely legitimately obtained, medical credentials."

"A doctor!? Oh joyous exaltations. It is so good to meet a fellow educated man out here in this barren wasteland. It is such a rarity to converse with esteemed men that I had rather forgotten the comfort it brings the soul to hold conversation with intellect!"

It's worth noting that whilst Scrancher might be quite eloquently spoken, he doesn't have the highest of wits. Which goes some lengths to show perhaps how he was so easily outsmarted by a man and a chicken.

“The name’s Pains. Most call me the Cadaver Kid on account of my supposed reputation for sending ne’erdowells to dance with the devil. Or because I’ve been shot 15 times. Never been sure which.”

"Cornelius St John Cumflutter III, at your service sir. Formerly of Louisiana, now in this godless corner of hell. Be warned sir, we have an unfortunate tendency to attract the worst sort of luck that could befall a humble group of honest gentlemen such as ourselves"

A Louisiana-like place within the game world might be 'Carcass Country'.

"My, my, what a rambunctious assemblage we have here. A pleasure. Well, my business here is concluded before it began I am most disenchanted to say. If you esteemed gentlemen wouldn't mind the company then I am inclined to throw my lot in with you for a time until destiny leads me elsewhere."

Ah right, I assumed it was very similar just with supernatural stuff being common place. Did the Civil War tale place in this reality?

Not THE Civil War, but there could have been a Civil War, perhaps.

Basically, this was the designer's attempt to create a "cowboy world" with all the suffering, hardship and romanticised, cinematic trappings of the Old West, without the awkwardness of racism, slavery and ethnic oppression that went along with it.

So, it's not the USA as we know it...it's a world that resembles certain elements of it.

I slide my pouch of silver waaaay down in my pocket.

"Well, Mr Roach is currently inside the ranch if you wish to discuss it with him..."

I put my arm around his shoulders.

"My poor Mr Scrancher, that is an interminable state of affairs for which I do rightly apologise on behalf of our deceased associate. If we were to compensate you, plus a little interest for your troubles, how would you feel about joining our little posse to right similar wrongs across this accursed land?"

I drop 8 silver into his hand.

"Given how you've seen the truth of the matter between us and the wretched sheriff, I'm happy to offer a reasonable, discounted membership rate of 2 silver per week. What say you, good fellow?"

[Mantis]

"Why that is awfully generous of you, sir. We have an accord."

[Stormbringer]

And I thought it was Scrancher who was wanted for Gruesome Extortion!

"Welp, now the introductions are out of the way, what say we go collect on there here bounties and drink the saloon dry?"

Doc will make sure to untie Jinx before we leave the ranch...
