I suspect it will be getting flack online for looking very much like a PS4 game?

One of my all-time favourite games was the 1998 Mission Impossible game on the N64, no doubt I spent almost as much time on it as I did Goldeneye replay wise. If anything that particular game with its own Embassy section firmly introduced the very first open adventuring (ie non-linear) style mission structure we know today - long before anything else ever got round to it. It deserves recognition. So yes this new Bond inspired IOI game looks finally as if someone took the premise for that game and brought it into the current gen and I could not be more excited for it, the graphics look fine to me, and we all know precisely what the Glacier engine is capable of even if it's not exactly instrumentally showcased or fully represented all that well in the trailer.

I could have done without the constant annoying smirk though.

Just remembered, I love the use of the (much underrated) theme from On Her Majesty's Secret Service, especially the modern cover of it.

Though I can see the argument on both sides after waiting so very long for a new Garrett outing they instead opt to shift it directly to VR... and yes it is quite obviously very much the perfect candidate to do so. As bummed as I am I'll never get to play it having zero interest in the platform after playing every single Thief iteration (Thief 2014 unlike most I'm actually appreciative of) it will still be interesting to see how this particular release plays out and if indeed it ends up in line with say Batman Arkham Shadow or not.

Arksys just stole Capcoms lunch money. Essentially making Marvel Vs Capcom 4 without Capcom. I’ve no real interest in Marvel characters and I’m not a big fan of these huge combo adhd fighters but I’m curious. Damn pretty too, I don’t think it’s quite as good looking as Strive but Arksys have some great artists, best in the genre. I am quite fond of the Japanese voices for the marvel characters, kind of hope that’s the default.

Crap name though.

I thought the Bond game looked like an Uncharted game and Bond looked a bit like Nathan Drake, especially in the opening shots. That isn't to say that is a bad thing, I think that's a better direction to go than to make Bond a Hitman type game.

This feels like it should be labelled as NSFW for WB, Raid and me

Ooh. I'm a lot more interested in it for being The Expanse (and clearly based on the TV aesthetic) than Mass Effect though.

Yacht Club Games (the makers of Shovel Knight) confirmed the release date for their next game the other night. Mina the Hollower is very obviously inspired by one of the best Zelda games, Link's Awakening (and possibly the two Oracle games that I never played so can't comment on), but the thing that stands out most in this trailer is the music, which absolutely rocks. I'm quite excited for this, they've really nailed the aesthetic and Shovel Knight was a brilliant game.

If they fix the camera controls, it's an instabuy for me. I've tried replaying it a few times over the last few years but I found the control schemes so woeful that it wasn't worth it.

It's a decent game and while I have replayed it a couple of times down the years, the 'oh and by the way you all get crushed by rocks lul' ending always feels like a bit of an unnecessary slap in the face that stops me calling it one of the greats.

Thinking about it, loads of RPGs from the late 90s, early 00s had those slideshow endings that summarised the fate of each area or faction, and quite often it'd be stuff like "After the hero saved the townsfolk from their existential threat, things were fine until they ran out of food and were forced into cannibalism due to starvation, and eventually another faction grew fed up of them and slaughtered the survivors."

Fallout was especially guilty of this. Hooray, you've fixed the ghouls' power plant and fostered peace between them and Vault City! But then...

Shame it's Aspyer doing the port as it will probably end up still being a bit of a mess.

Not even a single week post release Mindseye currently sits at just 145...142 people playing the game according to Steam db with a 38% positive. I'm genuinely stunned that IO Interactive of all people had anything to do with such a saw it coming a mile away some three years ago disastrous release. It can't even truly be considered an attempt at being a GTA clone when the majority of gameplay is either timed or intentionally restricted so as to ensure you don't look directly beyond all the very carefully done window dressing. It clearly was far from ready to launch and who knows what went on behind the scenes ex one time GTA producer attachment or not.

To put it into perspective Saints Row 2022's release had more players at launch held a 56% positive and more people were playing it 24 hours ago than Mindseye, in all fairness the shitfest that was Embracer were the true reason for Volition closing not directly SR 2022.

I'm not one to celebrate games getting such a poor reception even though the stigma attached to it if it was even a real game or not was still being questioned right up until release thanks to no reviews being allowed, all in all I just really hope other developers and publishers learn a valuable lesson from this one particular game. Fucking hell.

edit: I've played roughly an hour of SR 2022, it cost me exactly £1.50 for the pleasure but at the very least you can exercise the right to go where you want, do what you wish how you wish it's actually a respectable enough true open world experience you can commandeer any vehicle you choose at any time etc - Mindseye does none of this pretty much and should never have been marketed as if it did.

Also. Youtuber who took on a sponsored stream for the game openly apologises for doing so and even offers refunds...

Not to sound as though I'm riding the negativity train on this one the game was not ready for release, most probably forced to release and out of funding held up far too much by a one time GTA Producer's name being attached and they will not have the resources or money to turn things around in any conceivable way.
