If Trump's typical playbook is anything to go by, he's about to do something drastic as a distraction. The bigger the controversy, the bigger the distraction. My money's on him giving Putin some truly awful all-or-nothing deal to either end the Ukraine war or escalate it further.

Most likely that. The dirt appears to go well beyond party lines (especially when it comes to the Clintons), so the fact that Trump is now calling for their release strongly suggests that they've kept all the stuff to condemn Democrats and 'lost' or doctored anything that implicates Trump and his cabal. I daresay he'll throw one or two allies to the wolves to give the appearance of it being a full and honest disclosure.
