Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
This has generally been the case with American leadership visiting European conferences over the last year. They're not saying it for the immediate audience, they're saying it so that they can get some soundbites on Fox News and the story can be "Trump shows Europe why everything they're doing is wrong". I'm sure they're all edited to include applause from the other delegates too. Every quote I'm reading from this speech is something that can so easily be fact checked and proven wrong, and everybody in that room will know that. It's all just part of the strong man routine.

Oh, definitely - there's not a single bit of this that is for the benefit of anyone at the WEF. I'd guess they're all playing on their phones.
EDIT - A random quote that made me choke on my tea:
"So many young souls going to war, their parents are so proud. Two weeks later they get a call, 'Oh, your son's head's been blown off'."
I have to wonder if that's verbatim for an actual call he's had to make at some point.
EDIT 2 - Now this is potentially interesting. With regards to Greenland, he just said "You can say yes and we'll be very grateful, or you can say no and we'll remember."
Is that the first sign of him backing down? As in he won't actually do anything but sulk?

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
He also said that they'd definitely not use force to take Greenland too.
His position on something flip flops on a daily basis sometimes though so who knows if he meant it. He probably did today.
Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
Trump's memory is only the last 60 seconds or so; "We'll remember" is basically a threat, as he can remember just long enough for him to tell Rubio (if Hegseth's not in his immediate eyeline I assume he forgets and just assumes it's one of Rubio's jobs) to order immediate airstrikes. Anything that happens after, he'll find out about it on Fox that evening. It's a system that works.Wrathbone wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 2:15 pmEDIT 2 - Now this is potentially interesting. Incredibly he’s abandoned the threat of tariffs now as well. Given how strongly he was insisting yesterday that he wouldn’t back down no matter what, he’s absolutely crumpled on arrival at Davos. I’d love to know who or what was responsible for giving him the naughty-boy spanking of reality that he needed.

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
I'm guessing he was either given an under the table deal that benefits just him or someone explained what he personally will lose in Europe if he keeps pushing. They may just have given him a shiny medal and told him he the bestest president ever.Wrathbone wrote: ↑Wed Jan 21, 2026 10:10 pmIncredibly he’s abandoned the threat of tariffs now as well. Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
Part of me wonders whether there's been some sort of agreement to get him the Nobel Prize next year. I feel like the only tactic Europe have left that could drown out his puppeteers is appeasing his ego, and he clearly thinks he deserves one despite his being against everything the prize stands for. I've only started hearing about this Board of Peace thing this week and haven't read up yet on what exactly it is (is it the same Board of Peace that he was proposing for dealing with the destruction of and following gentrification of Palestine?), but it sounds like he (or more likely the US' slightly more capable diplomats) is leading that effort. Should it be necessary? Of course it bloody shouldn't, we should be building up NATO and the UN, but I don't think he can stand the idea of not being in control of absolutely everything so that he gets all the plaudits.
Whatever the reason, I'm not going to be remotely surprised if he gets home and immediately starts threatening military and financial action against Europe, because when he reaches the seat of American power, a tacky Floridian golf course, a European leader won't have been the most recent person to speak to him.
Edit: The Board of Peace stuff has been in the headlines this morning. It did indeed start as Trump's "solution" to the Palestine issue, but he thinks it should be closer to the UN in scope. The signees today are... The United States, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Belarus, as well as Turkey, Egypt and Morocco. Vladimir Putin has apparently been asked to join so that they can discuss frozen Russian assets. An absolute shining bastion of good-faith operators then, whose only wish is for peace and not big sacks of cash. Trump is listed both as chairman and delegate, and countries would be contributing in excess of $1billion.

Re: Trump: Impeach is the new Orange
It's morphed from something focused (i.e. peace in Gaza) into something truly hideous when you look at the details. Trump is the Board's chairman for life and he has executive veto powers over every decision the Board makes. He's setting himself up as a modern day emperor.
It's equal parts amusing and horrifying when you compare the list of members to the Corruption Perception Index rankings. No right-minded, non-corrupt, democratic country would sign up to this.

Trump knows only one way: Mafia. He was beholden to The Mob, then the Russian Mafia took over with Semion Mogilovich... And he has been beholden to and with that modus operandi all his adult life. Trans-National Organised Crime.
