I think it looks good, but I'm not blown away. The UI looks a bit of a mess and the language is trying too hard to be edgy. Obviously this could all change, but based off what I've seen I'm not blown away like most people seem to be. I do like the look though.
You've touched on the one thing that bugged me about the video. I hope they won't take the "cholo sidekick" shtick any further than they already have, with that character Jackie (might as well name him Jamie, tbh) - I actually live in Northern California, the "setting" for the game, the Free State of North California, so the constant nicknames and barrio street slang was a little grating. It's a bit too much like real life, in other words.
To put it another way: they've hit the nail on the head with the characterizations, language and all. It bugged me because it felt almost intimately connected to my present life. So, it's praise to the devs - they're getting it right, imho, and the gamers of the world will benefit. I'll just have to grit my teeth, when the time comes
