“Apologies about yer friend. What with the clowns and the Loudmouths, I’m sure you can appreciate we thought you was trouble. No hard feelings.”

Then I’ll take him to the exterior door and make sure he walks a good distance away.

"Thank you, sir!"

He walks away, straight eastward, toward the gate of the ranch.
My fire is more than can be made with forests,
My state more base than are the basest valleys;
I wish no evenings more to see, each evening;
Shamed, I hate myself in sight of mountains,
And stop mine ears, lest I grow mad with music.

Do you also wish to search the bodies of all four other dead bounty hunters in the hallway and latrine?

Unnerved by the silence, Doc descends from the roof and makes his way cautiously round to the front door.

He quickly spies his companions before catching sight of the latrine. His eyes widen at the bounteous treasures within.

Doc would like to make another concoction of every liquid found within - clean and dirty water, blood, and homebrew moonshine.

Each of them has a rusty revolver (containing ammunition) and a rusty razor-blade. They also have, collectively: a safety pin, a photograph of them and a loved one (dressed in their finest), a letter with loving wishes from a family member, and a deck of well-used playing cards. Take what you will and divvy it up as you seem fit, remembering that you can only carry ten items in your pockets, three on your belt, and three on your back.

All right, state your desired product(s) and roll 2d20 for WITS.

Also, checking the cabinet above the sinks with the broken mirror, you find:

  • Two rusty razors (this must be where all these bounty hunters got these from)
  • Three bottles of laudanum (each containing 4 doses worth)!

Can the results of Doc's potions be somewhat randomised? Like, have a list of possibilities and I'll roll to see what happens?

Partly for fun, partly because I don't really know what to ask for (and I suspect there's a high degree of unpredictability in the results of his experiments).

But to check that it's actually beneficial and not pure poison, my rolls were 5 and 14.

I'll also distribute the laudanum so every other member of the posse has one.

Here's some ideas for beneficial conconctions I just made up:

d8 roll:

1. Scotum's Sobering Salts (cures Drunkenness; you have one of these already)
2. True Grit (boosts Grit by +d4)
3. Quick-Slick (boosts Slick by +d4)
4. Brain-Gain (boosts Wits by +d4)
5. Liquid Luck (boosts Luck by +d4)
6. Ace in a Bottle (immediately gain another Ace)
7. Doc's Anti-Tox (cures poison/venom)
8. Übermensch (all tests made with 2d20)

All of these effects last until you reach 0HP (triggering a Death Check), then you revert back to your previous state.

You also require some kind of container to mix these in.

Doc already threw away a bottle of laudanum (as a makeshift firebomb)...you have your water canteen (currently containing 1 does of laudanum, I think?) or your bottle of SSS that you made prior to the game starting (mixed in an empty bottle of whiskey you found in an outhouse).

Sounds good. I'll tip out my previous mixture and refill it here. I rolled a 3 on the d8

In which case, you have made yourself a bottle of Quick-Slick!

Okay, I've given everyone a bottle of Laudanum (Doc's orders) and an extra slot of revolver ammo which you (presumably) stripped off these bounty hunters.

What does the posse do next?

Could we get a map update? I'm a little confused with the intel that there's a leader to the SE of our current position...

Yeah, sorry, I updated that text as I frequently get east and west mixed up. It should have (originally) said "south-west".

The map (of the interior) hasn't changed so far; you've only explored two rooms, the main entrance hall and the latrine:

Looks like we could enter the next room from two doors - maybe two people on each door?

Didn't those three bounty hunters burst through those double doors to the south? That's the room with the chimney I was talking down through, right?

Or were all five of them hanging around in the latrine?

No, it's slightly confusing, but there were five bounty hunters all together.

Two were hanging out in the latrine, Cumflutter shot one of them through the latrine door (that fella was standing right behind it, listening into the hallway), then the other one surrendered when he saw this, then Cadaver Kid let him go.

Three other bounty hunters were in a different room, somewhere else in the building, which just so happened to have a fireplace in it, with a chimney leading up to the roof that Doc Scotum was listening down. Doc Scotum then spooked them into thinking the Sheriff had arrived, so after shooting up the chimney (which thankfully missed Doc) they fled that room, barrelled through those double-doors in the middle of the main hallway's south wall, surrendered to Roach, then all found themselves shot dead.
